How to Glue Foam Together
Supplies Needed to Complete this Task
You will need the following: The two pieces of custom cushion foam that need to be glued together and spray adhesive.
Preparation
Some glue residue may land on your working surface while you work with your cushion or
sofa foam. While you should be able to clean the surface after you are finished assembling your sofa seat cushions, some surfaces may be easier to clean than others. If you don't want to get your table dirty, you may want to consider lining your workspace with newspapers before gluing your dry fast foam.
Applying Glue to a Small Piece of Foam
Start by laying the foam for your sofa or seat cushions one on top of another (as shown in the picture at the right) so that the surfaces that are to be glued are facing you. Then take your spray adhesive and apply a good amount of glue to both pieces. Wait for about 10 seconds for the adhesive to become tacky, and then continue on to the next step.
Bonding the Foam Together
With the two pieces, align the smaller piece to the larger piece and begin to join both pieces together as shown in the picture at the lower left. After you have both pieces together, press the foam together so that both foams form a good bond with each other. See picture at lower right. Apply firm pressure along the entire piece of the foam, holding for about a second or two with each press. Let the glue dry for about 5 minutes and then move on to the next "How To's".
Applying Glue to a Large Piece of Foam
Start by laying the foam one on top of each other as shown in the picture at the right so that both surfaces that need to be glued are facing you. Then take your spray adhesive and apply a good amount of glue to both pieces. Wait for about 10 seconds for the adhesive to become tacky then continue on to the next step.
Bonding the Foam Together
With the two pieces, align the pieces together and begin to join both pieces together as shown in the picture at the lower left. After you have both pieces together, pinch the foam together (can be done with both hands) so that both foams form a good bond with each other. See picture at lower right. Apply firm pressure along the entire piece of the foam, holding for about a second or two with each press. Let the glue dry for about 5 minutes and then move on to the next "How To's".
