How to Measure Your Cushion
Supplies Needed to Complete this Task
You will need the following to measure the size of your
foam futons or other cushion: Pen or pencil, paper, tape measure
How to Measure Your Cover
Remove the cushion foam / filling in your current couch cushions, foam mattress, or other item. Then take the empty cover and lay it out on a flat smooth surface, like a dining room table. Lay the cover flat on the table so that all the wrinkles are smoothed out. Use your measuring tape to measure from seam to seam as shown in the picture. Take your measurements to the nearest 1/4 of an inch. Do this for the length, width and height of the cover and record your measurements using pen and paper.
Tweak your measurements for proper fit
With the measurements you have written down, it is best that they are adjusted slightly so that the foam fits nice and snug in your cover. Please follow closely, there are differences if you are doing foam only or foam with fiberfill wrap.
Foam Only: For both the length and width, add one full inch. For example, if you measured the width to be 24", you will increase this measurement to 25". If your cover has ears, as for an L or T cushion, add 1/2" to the measurement. For the thickness, our foam is sold in 1" incraments. If your cover's thickness is 1/4" over or less, round down to the nearest inch. If your cover's thickness is more than 1/4" round up to the nearest inch. For example, for 5-1/4" go down to 5" and for 5-3/4 go up to 6".
Foam with Fiberfill Wrap: For both the width and length, keep the sizes you have written down. DO NOT increase the size of your measurements. If your cover has ears, as for an L or T cushion, DO NOT add to the measurement. For the thickness, our foam is sold in 1" incraments. If your cover's thickness is 1/2" over or less, round down to the nearest inch. If your cover's thickness is more than 1/2" round up to the nearest inch. For example, for 5-1/2" go down to 5" and for 5-3/4 go up to 6".
